Wear Modelling for Tribological Applications: Computational and Experimental Approaches

Wear is a critical phenomenon in tribological systems, affecting the efficiency, durability, and reliability of mechanical components. Accurate modeling of wear behavior is essential for predicting material degradation and optimizing design strategies. This study presents a comprehensive approach to wear modeling, combining experimental investigations with computational simulations. Various wear mechanisms, including adhesive, abrasive, fatigue, and tribochemical wear, are analyzed using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and data-driven predictive models. Experimental validation is conducted through tribometer testing under varying loads, speeds, and lubrication conditions. The results highlight the influence of material properties, surface interactions, and environmental factors on wear progression. The integration of numerical and experimental approaches provides a robust framework for improving tribological performance in industrial applications.
