*Ink-Based Home Test Kit for Rapid Detection of Microplastics in Food Samples

This project introduces an innovative, low-cost ink-based home testing kit designed to detect microplastics in various food samples. Developed by Idson Ilora Isaac, this kit leverages a specially formulated hydrophobic ink that selectively binds to microplastic particles, making them visible under simple magnification devices such as a smartphone lens or portable microscope. The testing method is versatile, applicable to liquids, solids, and semi-solids, with the capability to detect microplastic particles as small as 5–10 microns at concentrations around 500 particles per liter. The process is user-friendly, affordable (under $15 per test), and provides results within two hours without the need for specialized laboratory equipment. This solution aims to empower consumers by enabling easy monitoring of plastic contamination in their food, contributing to health awareness and environmental protection. The project includes plans for commercialization within 1–2 years, involving lab validation, manufacturing partnerships, and consumer outreach through pilot programs.
