Strategic Leadership and Contextual Management: Elevating Educational Outcomes in Philippine Schools
Abstract This systematic review examines school leadership and management strategies in the Philippines, focusing on their influence on student learning outcomes. It synthesizes existing literature on the role of school principals, the professional environment for teachers, and the effectiveness of management-based interventions in enhancing educational performance. The review draws on studies from both low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) to explore global best practices and their relevance to the Philippine context. By analyzing a range of studies, the review evaluates how effective leadership and management strategies—such as principal training, decision-making autonomy, and support systems—can improve the quality of education. It also explores how these strategies impact the professional development of teachers and the overall learning environment. The review further discusses how these international insights can inform educational policy and practice in the Philippines. It highlights the importance of context-specific interventions and the need for tailored strategies that align with the country's unique educational and socio-cultural landscape. Ultimately, the review offers valuable recommendations for enhancing school leadership and management to foster better educational outcomes, emphasizing the need for investment in principal development and support. Keywords: School leadership, management interventions, student outcomes, educational effectiveness, Philippines, systematic review.
