EuroScienceGateway: Enabling FAIR and federated computing for data-intensive research across Europe
This poster, presented at EGI2025, summarizes the major technical and community-driven outcomes of the EuroScienceGateway project, which aims to empower researchers across Europe with FAIR and federated access to computational resources. Through an integrated, domain-agnostic gateway built upon the Galaxy platform, the project connects national and European computing infrastructures with workflow systems, data repositories, and training services. EuroScienceGateway’s core achievements include robust support for federated access via a unified gateway, scalable and energy-efficient workload scheduling through TPV-Broker, and the adoption of Bring Your Own Compute (BYOC), Storage (BYOS), and Data (BYOD) models. These innovations have enhanced flexibility and sustainability in data-intensive research. A major milestone has been the improved FAIRification of workflows—capturing, packaging, and sharing them using RO-Crate standards and persistent identifiers via platforms like WorkflowHub and Zenodo. The project has also established new national Galaxy instances (France, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Norway, and Czech) and expanded support to diverse scientific domains including astrophysics, materials science, climate science, and biodiversity. By closely aligning with the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) roadmap, EuroScienceGateway delivers a sustainable, interoperable, and researcher-centric framework for large-scale data analysis. This poster offers a concise visual overview of the project’s strategy, technical infrastructure, community engagement, and cross-domain impact.
