FEATURES OF THE STRUCTURE OF ASEMANTIC ROOT MORPHEMS (BY THE MATERIAL OF THE AZERBAIJANIAN LANGUAGE)
In some asemantized correction words the suffixes change their initial form by undergoing a phonetic change. Grammatical suffixes with asemantized roots are relatively rare. Many of them have lost their functionality in the modern Azerbaijani language. Some of the lexical suffixes that come into morphological contact with asemantized roots are still used in the Azerbaijani langiage today. In the process of development towards asemanization, two stages are distinguished that lead to a change in the structure of the word; stages in which the phonetic structure and morphological structure are functional. In the first stage, the phonetic structure of monosyllabic words undergoes various changes. Phonetic variants appear as a result of sound transitions and phonetic events. Sound transitions cause structural and semantic changes. In the second stage, the intensity of changes in the phonetic structure decreases. One of the phonetic events of the previous stage, only metathesis is observed. In general, there are no changes in the phonetic structure of the root. Metathesis serves a morphological structure rather than a phonetic structure. In the second stage, the asemantized root and the suffix together form an indivisible structure (As in the words of aldan- “to be deseived”, danış-“to talk”, güləş- “to wrestle”). In complex words, the morphological structure is simplified.
