Vitamin B12 Deficiency in Childern

Neural myelination, brain development, and cognitive function all depend on vitamin B-12. Pregnancy and early childhood vitamin B-12 deficiency have been linked to a number of negative child health outcomes, including delayed cognitive development. The fundamental mechanisms, however, remain unclear. The purpose of this review was to investigate the evidence relating to vitamin B-12 and children’s cognitive abilities. Three cross-sectional, one case-control, twelve cohort, and one randomised trial were among the 17 studies that came from the search approach. Attention, memory, and perception were among the cognitive functions evaluated. Additionally taken into account were cognitive quotient, academic achievement, and developmental outcomes. To the best of our knowledge, no research has been done to far to investigate the impact of vitamin B-12 deficiency, despite the significant prevalence of this condition and the danger it poses for poor cognitive outcomes in children . To yet, no research has been done to investigate how vitamin B-12 supplementation affects children’s cognitive abilities. To guide public health initiatives, the function of vitamin B-12 in the aetiology of children’s cognitive outcomes must be clarified.B-12 vitamin child brain cognition and cobalamin Utilised abbreviations BSID In terms of cognitive quotient, the Bayley Scales of Infant Development total homocysteine together with MMA methyl-malonic acid.
