As the second most common cause of death globally and a major contributor to disability, stroke has a substantial financial impact. Acute stroke can be classified as ischemic or hemorrhagic, with some overlap in risk factors and clinical presentations; Whatever it may be, their management approaches differ in a substasntial manner. Ischemic strokes happen because of an obstruction of blood vessels, restricting the blood supply to the brain. In contrast, hemorrhagic strokes lead to the rupture of blood vessel, causing blood to spill into the intracranial cavity. Interprofessional and multidisciplinary teamwork play an important role regarding identification, treatment and arrangement of efficient care to patients along with acute stroke throughout their recovery and rehabilitation journeys. Clinical guidelines for ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, and subarachnoid hemorrhage advocate for interprofessional healthcare teams in prehospital and hospital settings to promote patient outcomes. A multidisciplinary team arranges rehabilitation services during and after hospitalization to promote functional recovery and promote patient independence for individuals who have experienced an acute stroke. This comprehensive overview of acute stroke is dependent upon the current AHA/ASA (The American Heart Association/The American Stroke Association) Guidelines and relevant published literature. It is designed to update healthcare providers about this potentially disabling and life-threatening condition to enhance clinical recovery for each patient and decrease the global impact of stroke.
