Mapping Research Trends on Waterborne Diseases: A Scientometric Study

Abstract: This scientometric study examines the research publications related to waterborne diseases listed in PubMed database from 1995 to 2024. In total, 15,214 publications were collected and analyzed to determine trends in publication, publication type, authorship/ co-authorship patterns, and collaborative behaviours in the field. The year on year analysis highlights a steady increase in the research output and a significant jump in the last decade, pointing towards a growing awareness and research interest all over the world towards waterborne diseases. The majority of publications were journal articles (79.27%), followed by review articles (11.11%) and case reports (1.80%).The analysis of author pattern clearly indicates a dominance of multi-authored publications with 67.92% of articles containing more than four authors, which highlights a collaborative research environment (Maheswarappa 2021). To our knowledge, our study presents a novel and innovative analysis on the trends in scientific literature related to waterborne diseases, with potential applicability as a benchmark for future researchers, policy makers and funding institutions to understand the current research gaps and opportunities for collaborative actions
