The Intersection of Discourse Analysis and Pragmatics in the Age of Artificial Intelligence
Abstract In recent years, the burgeoning field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has transformed various domains, including language processing and communication analysis. This paper explores the synergetic relationship between discourse analysis and pragmatics within the AI era. Discourse analysis examines how language use influences social interaction, while pragmatics focuses on the context-dependent meaning of language. As AI technologies advance—particularly in natural language processing (NLP)—understanding these linguistic frameworks becomes pivotal. This research highlights the implications for AI-driven communication tools, discusses challenges related to ambiguity and context, and presents future directions for intersecting discourse analysis and pragmatics in AI. By bridging these linguistic branches, we uncover new pathways for improving AI communication, enhancing user interaction, and mitigating potential misunderstandings in human-AI exchanges. Keywords: Discourse Analysis, Pragmatics, Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing, Human-AI Interaction, Contextual Meaning, Linguistic Frameworks
