Advancing Location-Based Services: The Role and Impact of the ICA LBS Commission
Abstract The ICA LBS Commission on Location-Based Services (LBS) was formally established on 28 August 2015 during the 16th ICA General Assembly with the primary objective of advancing interdisciplinary research in location-based services and fostering innovation in the field. The commission was conceived with the overarching goal of enabling “anywhere, anytime, for anyone and anything” (4A) services, recognizing the transformative potential of LBS in various domains, including navigation, mobile applications, smart cities, emergency response, mobility management, and environmental monitoring. Given the rapid technological advancements and evolving societal demands, the commission was granted a renewed mandate for the period 2019–2023 by the 17th ICA General Assembly on 20 July 2019, reaffirming its commitment to addressing contemporary challenges associated with LBS.
