Interlingual and Intralingual Errors in Second Language Acquisition: A Study in Applied Linguistics
Abstract: Applied linguistics is an interdisciplinary field that bridges the theoretical knowledge of linguistics with practical applications in language learning, teaching, and communication. This paper explores the nature and sources of errors made by second language learners, specifically focusing on interlingual and intralingual errors. Drawing upon the theoretical frameworks of Corder, Nemser, Selinker, and others, the paper examines how learners construct approximative systems, how fossilization and contextual influences impede progress, and how communication strategies compensate for linguistic limitations. The paper also highlights the implications of these insights for pedagogy, curriculum design, and further research in applied linguistics.
