Peptic ulcer in children
Peptic ulcer disease in children, while less common in children than adults, poses significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. The epidemiology, etiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic work-up, management, and prevention strategy of pediatric peptic ulcer disease will be discussed in this review. The growing awareness of Helicobacter pylori infection and its strong association with PUD in children altered the treatment and diagnosis landscape. Early diagnosis and targeted treatment prevent complications such as bleeding, perforation, and gastric outlet obstruction. This article focuses on current trends, issues, and advances in the etiology and management of peptic ulcer disease in children.
