The subject of this study is the factors and reasons for the poor reading performance of Bulgarian 15-year-old students in the international PISA studies. The analysis is based on the critical results of seven studies conducted in the European Union in 2000, 2006, 2009, 2012, 2015, 2018, and 2022. In part 2 of the publication in journal “Polygraphy“, the analysis focuses on the following aspects of the contemporary phenomenon of "reading" – "The inability of sociological instruments to reveal the real reading situation", "Reading is not genderless, reading is not unisex", "Reading is not a constant, it mutates", "The low-intelligence claim that young people do not read". The conclusion insists that reading should become the subject of global political decisions in order to remain the most human difference between the reader and artificial intelligence.
