AgriBoost:Crop Recommendation Platform for Farmers using ML

Agriculture continues to serve as afundamental pillar of the global economy, playing acritical role in ensuring food security for variouspopulations. However, traditional farming practicesoften lead to suboptimal crop selection decisions, whichcan adversely affect agricultural yields and theeconomic viability of farmers. These less-than-idealchoices frequently arise from an overreliance onconventional knowledge, without sufficientconsideration of changing environmental conditions, evolving soil characteristics, and increasingly erraticclimatic patterns. The introduction of a croprecommendation system that employs advancedmachine learning algorithms offers a promisingsolution by systematically assessing multipleenvironmental parameters to aid farmers in identifyingthe most suitable crops for cultivation within specificagricultural contexts. This comprehensive studyexplores the design methodology and practicalimplementation of such an intelligent recommendationsystem, utilizing extensive datasets that encompassdetailed analyses of soil composition, high-resolutionmeteorological data, and thorough profiles of cropcharacteristics. The research adopts a multi-layeredapproach to data processing, integrating both historicalyield data and real-time environmental monitoring. Byemploying sophisticated machine learning algorithms, including Random Forest, Support Vector Machines(SVM), and K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), the developedsystem demonstrates the ability to provide precise andadaptively refined crop recommendations tailored tospecific geographical locations and seasonal variations.Experimental results from field tests conductedacross various agricultural zones reveal statisticallysignificant improvements in crop yields, ranging from15% to 30% compared to traditional selection methods.Furthermore, the system exhibits enhanced resourceefficiency, with notable reductions in water usage(22%) and fertilizer application (18%), all whilemaintaining or increasing production output. Thecross-validation accuracy of the predictive modelsreached 93.7%, affirming the system's reliability acrossdiverse agroclimatic regions. The proposed intelligentcrop recommendation system signifies a substantialadvancement toward the large-scale implementation ofprecision agriculture, equipping farmers withactionable, data-driven insights that facilitate informeddecision-making processes. In addition to immediateproductivity enhancements, this approach promotessustainable agricultural practices by optimizingresource allocation and minimizing environmentalimpact. Future research avenues include the integrationof IoT sensors for real-time data collection, theexpansion of the recommendation framework toencompass intercropping scenarios, and thedevelopment of accessible mobile platforms todemocratize access to advanced agriculturalintelligence tools for small-scale farmers in developingregions. Keywords— machine learning, internet of things, support vector machine, random forest, agroclimatic, productivity, sustainable, expensive machinery, NGOs,resource gap
