Management of On-Campus Housing Facilities for Students at PNG University of Technology
Abstract: This paper examines the implementation of Operations Management (OM) concepts at the Papua New Guinea University of Technology (UNITECH) in Lae. The university aims to develop world-class technocrats from the students enrolled in its thirteen academic programs. Due to increased enrollment at the Taraka campus, UNITECH faces accommodation challenges. The Student Support and Facilities Centre Department (SS & FC) has implemented measures to address this issue, prioritizing housing for scholarship recipients under the PNG Government's Tertiary Education Student Assistance Scheme (TESAS), followed by self-sponsored students. Strategies to tackle the accommodation shortages include collaborating with external partners for additional housing and enhancing enrollment through satellite campuses and online options. These initiatives are essential for ensuring that UNITECH can graduate enough professionals to meet business and government needs.
