Keep Silence: Experiences of Secondary School Learners Towards Library Rules and Regulations
School libraries are the vibrant crescendo in the symphony of education, orchestrating a melody of learning, imagination, and discovery. Their purpose transcends mere bookshelves; they are sanctuaries of wisdom where students compose their intellectual opus. Libraries cultivate a love for reading, encouraging minds to dance through the pages of knowledge and creativity. This has evoked the curiosity of the researcher, and it has caused the necessity to conduct a study about school libraries. Through a qualitative phenomenological study, the researcher gathered unique narratives about the experiences and coping mechanisms of the library rules and regulations. The participants were ten (10) students from a secondary school in the Schools Division of Panabo City. In the study, two themes emerged from students' experiences: the library's quiet atmosphere and its being a repository of diverse learning materials. Meanwhile, two themes have surfaced as the coping mechanism of students to its rules and regulations: appreciation for its focused environment and increased reading habits of students. Finally, the insights revealed two themes: supporting academic success and bridging the digital divide. In essence, libraries are more than repositories of books; they are beacons of education and catalysts for community connection. Their significance lies in fostering literacy, providing a sanctuary for learning, and creating spaces where diverse communities can unite.
