Automating data citation at scale to advance open data metrics
Poster ‘Automating data citation at scale to advance open data metrics’ presented at ACRL 2025. Academic libraries are increasingly focused on understanding dataset usage and impact to report on diverse research outputs, enhance data advocacy efforts, inform strategic research data management, data acquisition and collection management, and help support recognition and reward of data activities and contributions. Data citations serve as crucial indicators of dataset utilization. The poster presents insights on dataset usage and reach from Northwestern University and University of Colorado Boulder, utilizing data citation information from open aggregates like the Data Citation Corpus. Notes The Data Citation Corpus data file is available at https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.11196858. Data citations from Europe PMC used in the analysis are included as an accompanying file.
