ASSESSING COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE IN PRIMARY SCHOOL LEARNERS: METHODS AND CHALLENGES
This course paper explores the methods and challenges associated with assessing communicative competence in primary school learners. Communicative competence, which encompasses a learner’s ability to use language effectively in various contexts, is a key objective of modern language education. The paper examines essential assessment methods such as formative, summative, and alternative approaches like self-assessment and peer evaluation. It also addresses common challenges, including subjectivity, limited assessment resources, and learner anxiety. Drawing on Uzbek and international language teaching methodologies, the paper offers practical recommendations for effective assessment practices that promote fair, child-centered, and competency-based learning.
