Time as the First Cause: Historical Foundations and the Ontology of Chronon Field Theory
This paper is written in a non-expert-friendly format with minimal uses of mathematical equations. It proposes a foundational reformulation of physics in which time is not treated as an external parameter or emergent dimension, but as a fundamental field—termed the Chronon field. We explore the historical marginalization of time in physical theory and develop a conceptual and formal framework wherein a future-directed, unit-norm vector field Phi(x) generates causal structure, spacetime geometry, and matter. Within this Chronon Field Theory (CFT), we examine the recovery of General Relativity and electromagnetism as emergent limits, and provide a novel account of symmetry, topology, and spontaneous symmetry breaking. The formation of metric structure, the emergence of particles as topological solitons, and the arrow of time all arise from the internal dynamics and ordering of the temporal field. Written for an interdisciplinary audience, this work synthesizes physics, philosophy, and cosmology to argue that becoming—not being—is the ontological ground of the physical world.
