A Review on synthesis, application and performance of oil extracted from waste plastic
There is no denying that plastic has a profoundly negative impact on the ecosystem and continuously puts humans, animals, and plants in grave danger. Over the last thirty years, there has been an enormous rise in the manufacturing of plastic worldwide, surpassing over 100 million tonnes annually. There is interest in using it as a substitute fuel for Compression Ignition (CI) engines on account of environmental problems, stringent emission regulations, petroleum fuel degradation, and the high cost of petroleum fuel. In recent times, recycling waste plastic has become a significant method for generating energy that may be used as a substitute fuel for CI engines as well as a means of reducing environmental pollution. Employing pyrolysis process, waste plastic can be converted into alternative fuels in order to produce energy. In this review, the performance and emission characteristics of CI engines using waste plastic oil (WPO) are reviewed. Furthermore, covered are blends of WPO and engines utilizing WPO with additives. It is concluded that WPO has the potential to be employed as an alternate fuel in CI engines.
