Research data management for XPS data: standardization, encoding, and automated tools

The adoption of FAIR data principles has been relatively limited in the field of photoemission spectroscopy (PES). This talk summarizes efforts in the FAIRmat consortium to develop an integrated data management workflow for PES experiments, leveraging the NOMAD platform and NeXus—a community-driven framework for experimental data modeling [1,2]. It introduces comprehensive standards (NXmpes and NXxps) aimed at standardizing PES data within the NeXus format [3]. We present our strategy for engaging with leading PES equipment manufacturers and the broader PES research community to ensure the compatibility of NXmpes with existing measurement protocols and software tools. Additionally, this presentation serves as an introduction to the NOMAD research data management platform and demonstrates how to create a FAIR data pipeline for X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) data within NOMAD. IWe illustrate how XPS workflows and analysis results are encoded in NOMAD and highlight how both individual researchers and the wider XPS community can benefit from adopting these standardized data pipelines. Abstract
