Relationship between physical activity and anxiety: A literature review
Abstract: Introduction: Anxiety disorders (AD) are very common in today's society and have a negative impact on the daily lives of individuals who suffer from them. These disorders involve a recurrent motor, cognitive and physiological response to certain triggering stimuli based on the individual's anticipation of a possible future threat. Treatment approaches are based on pharmacological and psychological therapies. Development: However, physical activity (PA) is increasingly presented as an excellent treatment option to complement these therapies and even replace them in some cases due to its benefits in relation to the improvement of physical, mental and social health at all ages. The aim of this paper is to carry out a review of the existing literature on the relationship between anxiety and PA. Conclusion: This bibliographic review concludes by considering the research in the field of the relationship between PA and anxiety as a space that presents findings fundamental and significant to support the practice of exercise as a means by which prevent or reduce AD.
