Psychometric Properties of the Social Skills Scale (EHS) In University Nursing Students

Abstract: Introduction: When addressing the competences that university students must have as part of their academic-professional profile, social skills, as an operative level of social competence, are configured as an essential element of it. The present study, with an instrumental analysis design, aims to determine and analyse the psychometric properties of Gismero's (2000) Social Skills Scale (EHS). The sample of 213 students of the nursing degree, from the university campus of Ceuta (University of Granada), of which 40 (18.80%) were men and 173 (81.20%) were women. Methods: For the statistical analysis, an exploratory factor analysis was carried out using the SPSS 30.0 and FACTOR Analysis 10.9.02 statistical programmes, where the metric properties were explored, as well as the effect that gender and religion had on the dimensions of the scale. Results & discussion: The results indicate an acceptable fit of the scale, which is applicable to the healthcare population and demonstrates the relationship between personal and religious variables. Conclusions: This study concludes that the Social Skills Scale is a valid and reliable instrument to measure the level of social skills in university students.
