Design and Simulation of an Automated Sewage Well Desilting Machine with the implementation of IoT

This paper offers a solution to the hazardous and humiliating task of manually desilting
sewage wells, a job that exposes workers to perilous gases such as hydrogen sulphide, methane, and
ammonia substances that can lead to severe health risks, including suffocation and death. To combat
these dangers, the paper proposes an automated desilting machine featuring a grab bucket system
that eradicates the need for human entry into the sewage wells. This automation not only enhances
safety but also increases efficiency and reduces costs in the long run. The system is designed for ease
of use, with minimal operational and maintenance requirements, and incorporates IoT-based
monitoring to ensure optimal desilting performance. Utilizing advanced simulation tools like
SewerGEMS and MATLAB, the machine’s design is perfected for maximum effectiveness. The
deployment of this technology promises significant enhancements in public health, cost savings, and
the eradication of the degrading practice of manual scavenging, making sewage maintenance safer
and more respectful of human dignity.
