GREEN ACTION PRACTICE AND PERFORMANCE OF SMES IN ENUGU STATE

The study evaluated the green action practice and performance of SMEs in Enugu State. The specific objectives are to; examine the relationship between minimizing waste generation and operational efficiency; and ascertain the relationship between compliance with regulations and customer purchases of SMEs in Enugu State. The area of the study was Enugu State. The study used the descriptive survey design approach. The primary source of data was the administration of questionnaire. A total population of 257 selected owners and employees of the study organizations were used. The whole population was used to due small number. Two hundred and forty eight (248) respondents returned the questionnaire and accurately filled. Data was presented and analyzed using Likert Scale and the hypotheses using Z – test. The findings indicated that there was significant positive relationship between minimizing waste generation and operational efficiency of SMEs in Enugu State, Z = 9.608, P. = 0.05. There was significant positive relationship between compliance with regulations and customer purchases of SMEs in Enugu State, Z = 9.878, P. 0 .05. The study concluded that minimizing waste generation and compliance with regulations had significant positive relationship with operational efficiency and regulations and customer purchases of SMEs in Enugu State. The study recommended that Firms should Implement Lean Manufacturing Practices which include the 5S methodology Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) to organize the workspace and minimize waste, this will to reduce costs, improve sustainability, and boost profitability
