The Data Management Evolution in the Photon and Neutron Community (PaNOSC)
The presentation refers to the advances in research data management developed for the photon and neutron communities (PaN) in the context of the two EU projects PaNOSC and ExPaNDS. Both projects played a crucial role in advancing open science within the European research landscape: PaNOSC (Photon and Neutron Open Science Cloud) PaNOSC was an EU-funded project (2018–2022) aimed at promoting open science principles in major European research infrastructures for photon and neutron sciences. It was led by several large-scale facilities, including ESRF, ILL, XFEL, and ESS. Key objectives: Development of a common data management and open data framework Provision of FAIR data (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) Implementation of remote access and analysis tools for experimental data ExPaNDS (EOSC Photon and Neutron Data Services) ExPaNDS was a complementary project to PaNOSC, focusing specifically on national photon and neutron research facilities across Europe. Its goal was to align their data management practices with the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). Key aspects: Harmonization of data practices across national facilities Promotion of FAIR data principles Improved interoperability with EOSC
