The PITCHER project (Erasmus+ Programme, 2021-2024) designed and tested a set of Open Educational Resources focused on improving the capacity of teachers and educators in preparing new learning experiences to support the fight against archaeological looting and illicit trafficking of cultural goods. This board game for young people (ages 11-18) helps players understand the complex phenomenon of archaeological looting and illicit trafficking of cultural property by letting them become looters themselves! While the goal of selling as many treasures as possible motivates and entertains young players, the game’s mechanics make them aware of the most vulnerable places and objects to land and underwater looting, as well as other actors involved in this vast trafficking. They will also discover the actions taken by law enforcement to combat these scourges.Since the players are looters in this game, it is essential that they also share the perspectives of the victims and those fighting the trafficking. To help with this, annexes allow the teacher or cultural mediator to delve into various aspects of the subject: defining key terms, the particularities and causes of archaeological looting and illicit trafficking, their consequences, and the fight against these issues and its different strategies.
