Perionyx undetermined

Perionyx sp. Material Examined. MNP17-1117-45A14, Shirui Kashong (Peak), Shiroi National Park, Manipur, Lat/Lon: 25.1302, 94.4202, elevation: 2106.19 m, collected on October 11, 2017, by Shweta Yadav. Description (Fig. 4). A phylogenetic analysis was performed on a single, malformed specimen. It was not feasible to enumerate the taxonomic components in a methodical manner. The clitellum extends from xiii–xvii. The female pore single, median on xiv, within a small white circular patch. The male genital region is somewhat similar to P. bainii Stephenson, 1915, and the male pores are on xviii. With only a few characters observed, it was difficult to identify the specimen up to species level. Nevertheless, we have included the specimen in the study to provide a genomic signature for further investigation. DNA barcode. The mitochondrial COI sequences obtained from samples MNP17-1117-45A14 and MNP17- 1118-45A15, with process IDs IEW1071-17 and IEW1072-17, respectively, have been assigned the BIN number BOLD: ADL0399. The newly identified species shares an 87.86% identity match with Perionyx rufulus Gates 1945, represented by accession number MT431999. The sequences of all three species examined in the study exhibit an approximate 87% identity match with Perionyx rufulus. This predicament was caused by a lack of molecular COI data for the genus Perionyx in the database. Only the COI sequence of Perionyx excavatus is available in NCBI, and the remaining sequences of Perionyx gravelyi (Stephenson 1917) remain unverified. Additionally, there exist unpublished records of Perionyx depressus Stephenson 1914, Perionyx rufulus Gates 1945 and Perionyx sansibaricus (Michaelsen 1891).
