Multidimensional Poverty in BASIC Countries: A Comparative Analysis of Challenges and Strategies
Abstract: This study examines multidimensional poverty in BASIC countries (Brazil, South Africa, India, and China), revealing persistent deprivations despite economic growth. Utilizing data from the Human Development Report 2023 and employing the Alkire-Foster methodology (2011), the study analyses poverty profiles, revealing significant regional disparities and highlighting the disproportionate impact on the population. While access to essential services remains a challenge, the contribution of different deprivation indicators to overall poverty varies across countries. The study underscores the need for tailored policy interventions that address region-specific challenges, improve service delivery, and target vulnerable populations to effectively combat multidimensional poverty in these nations.
