Efectividad de la Terapia Dialéctica Conductual Comparada con Tratamiento Habitual en Adolescentes con Trastorno Limítrofe de Personalidad en el Instituto Nacional de Salud Mental del Perú
Abstract Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and Emotional Dysregulation (ED) are significant concerns in adolescent mental health, often resulting in suicidal behaviors, self-harm, academic failure, and social dysfunction. This study evaluates the effectiveness of Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Adolescents (DBT-A) in reducing clinical severity, suicidal behaviors, non-suicidal self-harm, and improving global functionality compared to standard outpatient treatment. Conducted at the Instituto Nacional de Salud Mental in Peru, 30 adolescents with BPD and ED participated, divided into intervention and control groups. Clinical severity was assessed using the BPD Symptom Checklist (BSL-23), suicidal behaviors via the Self-Injurious Thoughts and Behaviors Scale (EPCA), and functionality through the Children's Global Assessment Scale (C-GAS). Results showed significant improvements in global functionality and clinical severity for the intervention group, with reductions in hospitalizations and emergency admissions. These findings demonstrate DBT-A's potential to enhance adolescent clinical and functional outcomes, supporting its broader implementation in mental health services.
