Mammuthus: A Historical and Geological Study of the Mammoth

This article presents a study of the paleontological and geological characteristics of the mammoth (Mammuthus), a large mammal belonging to the family Elephantidae, which lived from the Late Pliocene through the Pleistocene and into the Holocene. The analysis covers scientific classification, geological time range, habitat, distribution, ecological roles, distinctive adaptations, and extinction factors. The findings highlight the evolutionary relationship between mammoths and modern elephants, as well as the lessons learned regarding the vulnerability of large mammals to rapid environmental changes. The article also discusses a confirmed fossil specimen identified as part of a knee joint, which provides strong evidence supporting the paleontological interpretation.
