When Creativity Meets Spirituality: Unveiling the Rock Engravings of Bhagalpur, Bihar
In ancient Indian culture, religion and creativity were deeply intertwined, with cultural expressions rarely existing independent of religious influence. Rock engravings, the focus of this study, represent a fascinating and thought-provoking aspect of this cultural synergy. These engravings are typically found on the surfaces of hillocks or scattered rocks and often reflect religious themes. The two primary sites examined in this study, Dhol Pahari and Gauri Pahari, are particularly rich in such engravings, most of which are closely tied to religious beliefs and practices. While a few engravings may appear less explicitly religious, they cannot be entirely divorced from the pervasive influence of faith. This article seeks to present a comprehensive analysis of these creative expressions, highlighting their gradual evolution and assimilation into the religious landscape of ancient India. Key Words: Bhagalpur, Gauripur, Dholpahari, Engraving, Religious, Creativity.
