Presentation SCIENCE À LA PELLE: finding medicines under our feet

Science à la Pelle is a citizen science project launched in 2022 by researchers from Université Paris Cité and INSERM to combat antibiotic resistance by discovering new bacteria in soil. Since many medicines, including antibiotics, originate from soil bacteria, this project aims to analyze thousands of samples to identify new molecules for potential drug development. Anyone can participate by collecting and sending a small soil sample, along with location details and a photo, through the project's website. Thanks to a partnership with La Poste, samples can be sent free of charge, making it easy for citizens to contribute to scientific research and the fight against antibiotic resistance. The presentation was prepared as part of a training day of the ASDOST-CitSci project.
