Diseases in Vegetable Crop Nurseries and Their Management
Abstract Vegetable crop nurseries serve as the foundation for healthy and productive vegetable cultivation. Effective disease management at the nursery stage is critical, as seedlings are highly vulnerable to a range of soil-borne and airborne pathogens, which can significantly impact crop yield and quality. This abstract outlines key disease management strategies in vegetable nurseries, emphasizing preventive and integrated approaches. These include the use of disease-free seeds, seed treatments with fungicides or biological agents, raised bed preparation, proper drainage, sanitation practices, and the application of biocontrol agents such as Trichoderma spp. and Pseudomonas fluorescens. Additionally, environmental control through adequate spacing, light, and humidity regulation plays a vital role in minimizing disease outbreaks. Implementing these integrated disease management practices ensures healthier seedlings, reduces dependency on chemical pesticides, and supports sustainable vegetable production.
