Like the Sangam period, the Koothars were praised during the Sangam Maruviya period. More than the Sangam period, the Koothars were praised by the kings during the Sangam Maruviya period. The nineteen thousand books record that the Koothars were relegated to a low position.Various stories are found in the epics Silambu and Manimekalai, such as Koothukalai, Koothukalaignargar, Aadalarangam, Natakamakaliir, the title of Thalaikoli given to them, and Nataka Asan.
