Advancements in MRI Techniques for Knee Cartilage Repair: A Systematic Review
This systematic review evaluates the role of advanced MRI techniques in knee cartilage repair, focusing on structural and biochemical assessments and their implications for treatment outcomes. Utilizing the Synthory.AI service, the review synthesized 15 articles from PubMed and PubMed Central™ databases, spanning publications from 2010 to 2024. Key findings highlight T2 relaxation time mapping as a reliable biomarker for cartilage integrity, while advanced modalities like dGEMRIC differentiate between healthy and repaired tissues. Despite promising results, challenges such as small sample sizes and variability in imaging protocols limit generalizability. Future research should focus on multicenter trials with standardized protocols and longitudinal designs to enhance reproducibility and clinical utility, ultimately improving patient care strategies in cartilage repair.
