Nanobodies: Unlocking a New Era in Therapeutics and Diagnostics
Nanobodies, also known as Nbs, are derived from the heavy chain-only antibodies found in camelids and certain sharks. Nanobodies exhibit several advantages over traditional antibodies. These single-domain antibodies maintain high antigen-binding affinity, even for hidden or recessed epitopes inaccessible to conventional antibodies. The remarkable versatility, stability and specificity of nanobodies position them as promising candidates for developing innovative diagnostic tools and therapeutic agents. However, extending their half-life in circulation remains a challenge for therapeutic applications, with many nanobody developments still in the preclinical stage.
