Di-Cephalic Head - Anomaly in Ruminants
Dicephalic head is a rare congenital malformation in ruminants characterized by the presence of two heads side by side on a single torso. This condition arises from the partial duplication of the embryonic axis or incomplete separation of monozygotic twins during embryonic development. Affected animals often exhibit additional anomalies, including duplicated vertebral columns, multiple hearts and variations in limb formation. Such malformations may lead to complications resulting in dystocia where cesarean section are required to assist in delivery. Unfortunately, dicephalic ruminants are typically stillborn or die shortly after birth due to the severity of their anatomical.
