RESILIENCE IN TRANSITION: EXPLORING POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION AND BODY POLITICS IN SOUTH KOLKATA
Maternal postpartum depression can have serious repercussions, such as a decline in both physical and mental health. Increased stress and anxiety, strained relationships with partners, low mood, lack of engagement in or enjoyment from activities, disturbed sleep, and appetite, low energy, feelings of shame or unworthiness, dissatisfaction, and suicidal thoughts are some of the consequences that may arise. PPD appears to have detrimental effects on moms and babies when left untreated. The societal stigma associated with depression after childbirth has long existed because it is believed that motherhood is something to be relished.
