Plato's Philosophy of Education: The Quest for Truth and Virtue
Abstract For centuries, philosophers have pondered the significance of education, with few providing satisfactory answers to what constitutes genuine education and its purpose. Plato stands out, positing that education teaches individuals to love, know, and seek truth, applying it wisely and virtuously in life. He argued that philosophy isn't just about acquiring knowledge but about living a rightly ordered life. In this paper, I explore the relevance of Plato's educational philosophy in addressing contemporary challenges in the education system. Plato's insights into appropriate role models, fostering good citizenship, and the pursuit of truth offer valuable perspectives for today's educators. This paper will contribute to the discussion on the Common Core curriculum and its role in modern education.
