EOSC-ENTRUST D19.1 Deployable Demonstrator of Digital Objects & Workflows Developments
The rapid growth of federated1 tools, platforms, analytics and learning approaches are revolutionising data analysis by enabling insights without the need to consolidate data files in a single location. Such approaches hold the potential to scale analyses significantly. However, the challenge lies in how Trusted Research Environments (TREs) can support this constantly evolving analytical landscape. Building a future-proof blueprint based on any single federated tool, platform, or technique is unrealistic. Instead, we must explore how existing international standards can act as adaptable frameworks. The Digital Objects & Workflows Demonstrator aims to evidence the power of these standards and middleware to integrate multiple federated platforms and analytics through a single software installation. By providing practical evidence, this work informs the blueprint design for TREs. Our work has developed a functional module for secure and interoperable workflow execution within TREs, addressing the growing need for standardised, FAIR2-compliant computational analyses across federated compute infrastructures. By building on the EOSC-ENTRUST Blueprint’s architecture components and aligning closely with standards from the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health (GA4GH) and the Five Safes RO-Crate, WP19 seeks to demonstrate how workflows can be managed and executed in TREs in a secure and reproducible manner while ensuring data sovereignty.
