Development of battery management system for electric vehicle

ABSTRACTThis paper gives the design and implementation of an advanced battery management system (BMS) forelectric vehicle. The concept is to divide each series battery array where each battery is individuallymonitored and managed. The proposed BMS continuously monitors the SoC of each battery cell. CurrentBMS can calculate individual state of charge (SoC) levels of each battery. The current system isolates eachindividual battery cell to apply different charging profiles and advanced diagnostics to detect the correctproblems. Here constant current charging is deployed using charging module for SoC balancing. The isolatedbattery is bypassed to maintain uninterrupted supply to the load. An unidirectional dc–dc boost convertermaintains a constant output voltage level to the load, nevertheless of the number of batteries connected, untilthe problem is corrected. Implementation of the hardware of the proposed BMS is explained in detail. Thesystem performance is tested experimentally under different loading conditions.
