From Modularity to Resonance_ Mapping Consciousness Through PAS_n and Cross-Region Coherence
Main article Abstract: This paper introduces PAS_n (Phase Alignment Score for neural regions) as a field-coherence metric for consciousness, grounded in the CODES (Chirality of Dynamic Emergent Systems) framework. It challenges the legacy modular model of the brain, reframing cognition as a structured resonance phenomenon. Using neuroscience-informed phase dynamics, PAS_n captures recursive waveform alignment across regions such as the prefrontal cortex, hippocampus, auditory cortex, and cerebellum. Music-induced flow states are used as an empirical anchor to illustrate how PAS_n peaks coincide with subjective immersion and consciousness stabilization. Applications span AGI substrate design, trauma diagnostics, EEG modeling, and real-time feedback systems for brain-machine interfaces. This work integrates theory, computation, and testable coherence metrics—providing a resonance-based alternative to both symbolic logic and probabilistic emergence in the study of mind.
