THE EFFECTS OF SUSTAINED SILENT READING (SSR) TO LEARNER'S ATTITUDE TOWARDS READING
A positive attitude towards reading is crucial for academic success and lifelong learning. However, many learners perceive reading as an obligation rather than a leisure activity, hindering their engagement and enjoyment. This study aims to investigate the effects of Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) on learners' attitudes towards reading. Utilizing a mixed-method research design, the study examined the impact of SSR implementation on learners' attitudes before and after the intervention. Key findings revealed a significant difference in learners' attitudes towards reading, with SSR proving effective in fostering a more positive attitude. Specifically, SSR promoted greater reading frequency and enhanced perceived reading competence. These findings suggest that SSR serves as a valuable reading intervention program, encouraging a love for reading and fostering a positive reading culture within schools. The study recommends that teachers and schools implement SSR to cultivate a joyful reading experience and enhance learners' overall literacy development.
