The Interplay between Anthropogenic Pressures and Natural Disaster: A Critical Analysis of Biodiversity Loss in Vulnerable Ecosystems of sand dunes and coastal areas in Kanniyakumari district

The interplay between anthropogenic pressures, natural disasters, and invasive alien species poses a significant threat to biodiversity in vulnerable ecosystems. This study critically analyzes the impact of these factors on biodiversity loss in the sand dunes and coastal areas of Kanyakumari district. Our findings reveal that human activities such as coastal development, tourism, and pollution have exacerbated the vulnerability of these ecosystems to natural disasters like cyclones and tsunamis. Furthermore, the introduction of invasive alien species has accelerated biodiversity loss, compromising the resilience of native ecosystems. This study highlights the urgent need for integrated conservation.
