How Technology Readiness Shapes User Intention to Adopt Mobile Hotel Apps: A Structural Equation Modeling Approach
As mobile hotel applications become increasingly integral to guest experiences, understanding the psychological and perceptual factors that influence their adoption is critical for the hospitality industry. This study examines the role of Technology Readiness (TR)—comprising optimism, innovativeness, discomfort, and insecurity—in shaping users’ intention to use mobile hotel apps, with perceived usefulness and trust as mediating variables. A quantitative approach using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was applied to data collected from 200 users of mobile hotel apps in five-star hotels across Jakarta. The findings reveal that trust and perceived usefulness significantly predict usage intention, while insecurity negatively affects trust. Surprisingly, optimism, innovativeness, and discomfort did not show significant effects. These results suggest that functional perceptions and emotional assurance are more influential than personal technology attitudes in this context. The study contributes to the extension of TAM and TR frameworks in hospitality and offers practical insights for app developers and hotel managers aiming to enhance digital guest engagement.
