Identification of hazards resulting from performing patrol flights over power lines
This study investigates the risks associated with patrol flights over high-voltage power lines, emphasizing the key challenges and hazards of such operations. The research outlines the definition, purpose, and technological advancements in patrol flights. Simulated flights using DJI Mini 2 and DJI FPV drones were conducted, supplemented by an analysis of a McDonnell Douglas MD500 helicopter patrol flight. These flights served as a basis for evaluating the capabilities and limitations of current technologies. Historical aviation accidents and inherent risks of patrol operations were reviewed to underline the necessity for advancing drone technology and autonomous systems to mitigate these risks.
