Revisiting CR/10 Oral History Collection through Simulated Dialogues
This project uses TinyTroupe, a Large Language Model-powered multi-agent simulation tool, to transform oral history interviews from the digital archive of China’s Cultural Revolution in Memories: The CR/10 Project into simulated dialogues between artificial agents known as TinyPersons. Each TinyPerson’s persona is developed based on real interview materials and designed to capture a variety of perspectives and lived experiences of the historical event. In four themed dialogue rooms, a rural victim, an urban victim, a former Red Guard, and two individuals born after the Cultural Revolution engage in conversations on memory, reconciliation, responsibility, and intergenerational understanding. This project offers a new way to engage with historical memories, allowing audiences to experience how conflicting personal stories and perspectives may interact and evolve across generations.
