Policy Framework and Government Initiatives for Rural Tourism in India: A Pathway to Sustainable Development
Abstract Rural tourism in India has emerged as a means of promoting sustainable development by stimulating local economies, preserving cultural heritage, and aiding environmental conservation. This study reviews the existing policy frameworks and government initiatives aimed at promoting rural tourism. Using secondary data from several government papers, policy documents, and research studies, the paper examines the various policies, schemes, and financial incentives that control the growth of rural tourism and evaluates how successfully they have accomplished the objectives of sustainable development. The study further identifies challenges regarding infrastructure gaps, community participation, and environmental issues, and presents strategic recommendations for boosting rural tourism in India.
