EDUCATION AND ENLIGHTENMENT ACCORDING TO EARLY MODERN CRITERIA OF HOLISTIC PERSONAL EDUCATION
Abstract The article analyzes education and the ideal of education from the point of view of the early modern concept of holistic education of the individual. It is noted that the Renaissance humanists proposed and provided advocacy for the idea of holistic education, and religious reformers – rotestants and Jesuits managed to practically implement the humanistic philosophy of education in newly established institutions – gymnasiums and colleges. It is proven that the early modern concept of holistic education of the individual was based on the pan-European program “pietas litterata” (“enlightened piety”) and built the pedagogical ideal of “perfectio hominis” (“perfect personality”), which provided knowledge of Latin, active piety and skill. It is concluded that the concept of holistic education of the individual occupied a priority place in the early modern educational space of European countries, and also quite naturally gained convincing influence in the modern socio-cultural space.
